Ajmer
The
strategic position of this city has led to its long and turbulent history.
Ajmer is connected to Delhi, Agra, Ahmedabad, Abu, Jodhpur, Udaipur and
Jaipur by main highways and holds strategic access to Gujarat and Malwa
(M.P). It was a key center of chauhan Power along with the twin capital of
Delhi, but after Prithviraj Chauhan was defeated by Sultan Mohammed Ghori
(1193), it had to pass through a chequered and violent history.

amongst the Rajput principalities was closest to imperial Delhi,
influencing the people and history of the region, formerly known as Mewat.

ruined citadel; it is a symbol. It stands for all that was brave, true and
noble in the Rajput tradition. Chittaur was attacked three times and on
each occasion the rite of Jauhar was performed.
Jaipur

Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer
takes its name from the words Jaisal and Meru, which mean Jaisal's Fort.
The fort here ranks among the major ones in Rajasthan and was built around
1156 AD. Lying on the caravan route bringing in spices, silks and dry
fruits from as far as Egypt, Persia, Arabia and Central Asia, it was a
key-pillar to the region's prosperity.
Jodhpur

is one of the, most important cities, lying on the edge of the Thar Desert
in western Rajasthan. This region, earlier known as Marwar also has
Bikaner and Jaisalmer as a part of the Desert Triangle.
Kota
Kota
is a fascinating mixture of medieval grandeur and modern
industrialization. An impressive fort stands like a sentinel over the
present day Chambal Vallely Project with its many dams Kota Barrage,
Gandhi Sagar, Rana Pratap Sagar and Jawahar Sagar.
Mount Abu
This
holy mountain lies at the southern extremity of the Aravalli range.
Surrounded by forests rich in florae and fauna, the town appears as an
oasis. The drive uphill along Abu Road overlooks an arid region strewn by
huge rocks with smooth surface and weird shapes, fashioned by high
velocity winds.
Pushkar
The
picturesque township and the sacred lake of Pushkar lies 11 km. from
Ajmer. Pushker is separated from Ajmer by the Nag Pahar (Snake Mountain).
This beautiful lake surrounded by bathing ghats has its religious
significance rooted in a myth. Accourding to the Padma Purana, Lord Brahma
was in search of a suitable place for a Vedic yajna (sacrifice).
Sariska
It
is the nearest tiger-land from Delhi (190Km). The landscape of Sariska is
dominated by sharp cliffs of hills and narrow valleys of the Aravallis.
The forests are dry deciduous. The grassy glades and woodland covers are
excellent niches for the prey species sambar, Chital, nilgai, four horned
antelope,
Shekhawati
The
semi-desert region of Shekhawati has a fascinating character. The open air
art gallery, as it is popularly called, is famous for its plethora of
painted havelis, all commendable pieces of the rich artistic traditional
of this region. `Shekhawati'-the land of the Shekha clan, derives its name
from Rao Shekha (1433 AD. -1488 AD.), a scion of the Kachhwaha family of
Jaipur.

The medieval history of the district is mainly the
history of Ranthambhor and the former State of Karauli. Ranthambhor was
one of the strongest forts of medieval India and is linked to the
philanthropy of Prithviraj, the ruler of Shakambhari who had golden
cupolas put on the Jain temple of Ranthambhor.
Udaipur

is no place in India, which appeals more to the imagination of poets and
painters, travelers and writers than Udaipur, the lovely lake side capital
of Mewar, by reason of its romance and beauty and its remarkable past
