BAKARWAL- means, Goat & Sheep herding
nomads belonging to the bigger group of Gujjar gypsies
of Kashmir Himalayas in Pir Panjal range. Constantly
moving from place to place and living life in the
spirit of true outdoor and in harmony with nature,
the Bakarwals are hardy, hospitable and very beautiful
people. They trace their origin to the tribes of Issac
(ISSA). The Bakarwal dogs are famous for their ferocious
demeanor and loyality.
The highlight of your outdoor Himalayan camping holiday
is at Darra-in the vicinity of famous Dachigam
National Park with a beautiful backdrop of Mahadev
Peak (13560 ft), and right in front of you the
delightful view of Dal lake, Anchar lake, Hazratbal
Dargah, Shankaracharya temple, Hari Parbat and far
in the distance the pearl peaks of Pir Panjal range.

of Mahadev is the best way to enjoy the breathtaking

spices, exotic fruits and flowers, birds, butter-flies
and ofcourse a jeepjssafari in the Dachigam National
Park to see the Himalayan wildlife- is an unforgettable

The nearby Dugwan river coming down from Tarsar &
Marsar alpine lakes abound in Rainbow and brown trout.
