An elegant city that has much to so and a great atmosphere which has entranced visitors for centuries. The centrepiece of the city is the splendid Arena which in every way is a rival to the colosseum in Rome.
Things not to miss :
1 Visit the Arena- Found in Piazza Bra, the city's
central square. Dating from the first century AD, the Arena remains in remarkable
condition and in summer regularly hosts concerts and operas. Definitely visit,
and if you happen to be there when an event is on, make the most of this unforgettable
experience.
2 Juliet's House - Shakespeare is said to have based
his tale of two lovers on the experiences of the local Montecchi family. You
can visit the house and of course the balcony where Juliet is said to have
looked out on the courtyard below where the forlorn Romeo called to her. It
may not be true but you will enjoy playing the part with your loved one.
3 The Scaliger Tombs - In front of the church of
Santa Maria Antica you will find the Arche Scaligeri which are fine examples
of Gothic funeral momuments.
