(Kaziranga is the biggest and oldest National Park in Assam. Accommodation and transportation is good. Jeep Safaris and early morning Elephant rides are possible. But during peak season there is shortage of rooms inside the park and you will have to do with accommodation outside.)
At Kaziranga, apart from Rhinos, it is the breeding ground for Tigers, Leopards, Jungle Cats, Hog Badgers, Hollock Gibbons, Jackals, Geese, Herons, Fishing Eagles and hundreds of avian species.
The park 4 preserves endangered species and promotes eco-tourism. It falls partly in Golaghat District and partly in Nogaon District.
One can reach by air to Rowaria airport in Jorhat and then by road to Kaziranga. Taxis are available at the airport. Guwahati is 217 km and a 6-hour drive away.
Quality accommodation is available. Assam Tourist Lodge, the Inspection Bungalows of Forest Department can be availed of. You may also try out the more luxurious Wild Grass, which is privately run wildlife property providing excellent jungle hospitality.
