DAY 01: Arrive
Chennai
Meeting and assistance on arrival and transfer to the
hotel for overnight stay.
DAY 02:
Chennai / Mahabalipuram
Morning drive to Mahabalipuram (65 km) the city
of Seven Pagodas is the greatest monument to the glory
of Pallava emperors. Near these delicately sculptured
temples stand life size stone statues of an elephant,
a bull and a lion. Transfer to the hotel after the city
tour.
DAY 03:
Mahabalipuram / Kanchipuram / Madras
Early morning drive to Kanchipuram (67 kms) "city
of thousand temples" of which 124 of are still
there, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The most spectacular
of these temples is Ekambeshwar. The Gopurams at its
entrance stand 188 ft high, with 10 storeys of intricate
sculpture. Kanchipuram is also famous for Conjeevaram
Silk. Evening drive to Chennai. Overnight at the hotel.
DAY 04:
Chennai/Trichy City
The town lies within the seven walls of the Colossal
Vishnu Temple. Behind the fourth wall lies the Hall
of Thousand Pillars.
DAY 05:
Trichy / Tanjore / Trichy
Morning proceed for a full day excursion to Tanjore,
built during the 10th century, reveals the beautiful
Brihadishwara Temple. Evening return to Trichy. Overnight
at the hotel.
DAY 06:
Trichy / Madurai
Morning drive to Madurai (127 kms). This city of festivals
has one festival practically every day of the year.
Visit the breath taking Meenakashi Temple dedicated
to the consort of Lord Shiva. The temple is believed
to have been founded by Indra (The king of Gods). Every
point in the temple has a legend attached to it. Overnight
at the hotel.
DAY 07:
Madurai/Periyar
Morning drive to Periyar Game Sanctuary (145 kms). Enroute
stop at Thekkadi, close to the Periyar Lake. Like a
placid river the lake winds around capes and hills and
is the heart of the 300 sq mile sanctuary. Enjoy the
ride of the motor launch which drifts along the lake,
presenting close views of elephants, deer, bisow and
even leopards and tigers. Overnight at Periyar.
DAY 08:
Periyar/Cochin
Morning drive to Cochin (184 kms), one of the three
largest ports on the west coast of India with shaded
lagoons, wooded islands and canals. Built in 1568 Cochin
is also called Venice of the East. Cochins old Spanish
style church of St. Francis was in fact, the very first
church in India. Vasco da-Gama is said to have been
buried here. Visit the Cochin Harbour Terminus and the
Chinese Fishing Nets. Overnight at the hotel.
DAY 09:
Cochin
Day at leisure. Optional : boat trip can be organised.
DAY 10:
Cochin / Trivandrum / Kovalam
Morning drive to Trivandrum (120 kms). Visit the Padmanabhaswami
(Vishnu) Temple. Later transfer to Kovalam. Transfer
to the hotel at the beach, for overnight stay.
DAY 11:
Kovalam
Kovalam provides excellent relaxation under bright sunlight.
One can also visit Padmanabhapuram - Lotus Navel
City. Overnight at the hotel.
DAY 12:
Kovalam
Full day free to relax on the beach. Overnight at the
hotel.
DAY 13:
Kovalam/Bangalore
Morning transfer to the Trivandrum airport to board
flight for Bangalore. Arrive Bangalore and transfer
to the hotel.
DAY 14: Bangalore
/ Hassan
Morning proceed for a half day city tour of Bangalore,
a modern and well planned city and home to several major
industrial houses, an aircraft plant and the beautiful
Mughal Gardens. Afternoon proceed to Hassan (183 kms.)
and transfer to the hotel for overnight stay.
DAY 15:
Hassan / Mysore
Morning visit Belur 36 kms from Hassan. The superbly
preserved Chennkesava Temple here is a tribute to the
skill and genius of the medieval craftsmen. About 10
kms from Belur is Helebid Temple, a riot of carvings
left incomplete after 80 years of labour. Afternoon
drive to Mysore (149 kms.) Arrive Mysore and transfer
to the hotel for overnight stay.
DAY 16:
Mysore / Bangalore
Morning proceed for a half day city tour of Mysore,
once the capital city of the princely state, often called
The Jewel of Karnataka. Afternoon drive to Bangalore
enroute visiting Srirangapatnam (16 km.), famous for
the summer palace of Tippu Sultan with wall painting,
the fort, Ranganatha Temple, dungeons and museum. Arrive
Bangalore in the evening and transfer to the hotel for
overnight stay.
DAY 17:
Bangalore / Mumbai
Morning transfer to the airport in time to board flight
for Mumbai. Assistance on arrival and transfer to the
hotel. Afternoon proceed for a half day city tour of
Mumbai. Visit Kamla Nehru Park, Hanging - Gardens situated
on the slopes of Malabar Hill, offering a panoramic
view of Marine Drive and Chowpatty Beach, Prince of
Wales Museum, Mani Bhawan, Dhobi Ghat, Gateway of India
and drive through the Crawford Market.
DAY 18:
Mumbai / Out
Morning free. Later transfer to the international airport
in time to board flight for onward destination.
