The south coast, although a little more built up, offers fine white sand beaches, duty free shopping and fun nightlife. A visit to Bridgetown’s Garrison brings alive the island’s military history: for food stalls and rum shops stroll the Baxter’s Road, Coconut Cree day or night. February’s weeklong Holetown Festival celebrates English settlers’ first Crystal Cove arrival. The biggest event, Crop-Over Festival lasts for 3 weeks from mid July. For the best windsurfing at Maxwell Bay. and other beaches, visit from November to June. Barbados is cooler and drier in late winter and early spring (February to May). This is the best time to go, although it’s the busiest!
